Last year we participated in the first ever “Show me the Munny" competition hosted by Atama and Centre. We won. This year we were invited to participate again. We committed.
We ordered our Mega Munny on Friday, December 16th, with an expectation of receiving the package the following week effectively giving us a little under 2 weeks to work on our piece for the show. Thanks to the holidays, and the hell that is shipping during that time, we didn’t receive our Munny until 8pm on Wednesday, December 28th. The show was Friday, December 30th.
We had less than 2 days to knock out the wiring, the sculpt, and the paint.
The week and a half it took to receive the package allowed us to solidify our concept. Last year we did Edward Scissorhands. This year, we knew pretty early on we wanted to do Teen Wolf. Randomly we thought, “it would be cool to just make this a Michael J Fox tribute and make our Teen Wolf character wear the Nike Mags from Back to the Future II, but only if we can make the shoes actually illuminate." Since neither Sam nor I know anything about electrical engineering, we went to my brother who’s pretty good at those types of things. He figured out what it would take to light the LEDs and started soldering and figuring out the closed circuit required for the on/off switch we would install onto the Munny. Once the wirework was complete, Sam began sculpting. She then spent all day Thursday sculpting. The sculpt was done by 2am Friday. We went to bed. I woke up at 6am Friday to begin what would be 11 straight hours of painting. The last stroke of paint was applied at 5pm, and we needed to be at Strangways where the show was being held at 6pm. It took EVERY SECOND of the 2 days not spent sleeping to make this happen! We were EXHAUSTED come show time. But everyone seemed to love our piece so it was all worth it!!!
